JOURNAL reader Edith Martin produced this 1930s photograph of halcyon days when work and sport went hand in hand.
The picture, taken around 1933, shows the opening of a bowling green at the North Road factory of Atherton popmakers Stotherts.
Doing the honours were Mr & Mrs Max Stothert, shown here with their three boys. To the left of Mrs Stothert is Irene Whittle, who presented a bouquet of flowers.
