THE Met got the vet when a dog was injured on the line.
The 12-month-old alsatian was hit by a Metrolink tram travelling towards Radcliffe station.
The dog, which was running down the track, sustained considerable injuries and immediate attention was needed to save its life.
Metrolink agreed to pay the veterinary costs for the operation which was carried out by Urmston vet Stuart Percival.
He said: "The dog had to have his tail amputated and a fractured leg pinned, but he's very perky and should make a full recovery."
A Metrolink spokesman said: "In the absence of the dog's owner we were more than happy to pay for the operation. However, the ultimate happy ending we would like to see is the dog reunited with his rightful owner as soon as possible."
The dog, pictured with head veterinary nurse Miss Julie Niven, was wearing a leash without any identification disk. If you think he is your pet call 205 8665.
