GLEN Philip Reid refused to co-operate with hospital staff trying to treat him after he was found lying in a pool of his own vomit. He removed his shirt and shouted abuse at paramedics and nursing staff and when challenged by police said: "I am 18. I can do what I want," Blackburn magistrates heard.
Reid, of Cloister Drive, Darwen, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in the accident and emergency unit at Blackburn Royal Infirmary. He was fined £100 with £55 after the chairman of the magistrates told him his behaviour had been completely unacceptable. Wendy Shackleton, prosecuting, said police were called to Duckworth Street, Darwen, after a member of the public found Reid lying in the middle of the road. When the police arrived he was lying on the pavement in a large pool of vomit, screaming hysterically.
"He could not stand on his own and was totally incoherent," said Miss Shackleton. "He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary but refused to co-operate with the paramedics and could not be treated."
Reid, who was not represented, apologised for his behaviour. "I should not have got in a state but I cannot remember a thing," he said.
