TWO-GOAL hero Steve Davis admitted the Clarets' 2-1 victory over Colchester at Layer Road was far from a vintage performance.
But despite conceding their first goal for a while, he was delighted with the end result.
"The performance wasn't really what we are up to," said Davis.
"But places like Colchester are difficult to come to and they've been on a good run recently so it's a good three points.
"They did put a bit of pressure on us but Crichts didn't really have any saves to make.
"It was disappointing to give a goal away because we hadn't conceded one for a while.
"But the three points were the most important thing and, fortunately for us, we managed to get them."
The roving centre back trebled his tally for the season by swooping after 17 and 37 minutes.
Yet despite his matchwinning performance, it was Ian Wright who was still at the centre of the attention after the game.
That didn't bother Davis, though, who modestly played down his own contribution.
"For the first one, I just managed to arrive in the right place at the right time.
"And for the second, it was another great cross and I just managed to get my head to it.
"But it doesn't bother me that Wrighty gets all the attention.
"Ian can take all the limelight and whatever comes with it after the career he has had.
"He deserves everything he gets and it's just a pleasure and a privilege to be in the same team."
