I HAVE followed with interest your coverage of the problems on the Grane Road and have written once before regarding my own experiences.
Now, the road is becoming more dangerous by the day and I genuinely fear for my life and that of my family each time we leave or return home.
The other day I was travelling towards Haslingden as I was returning home and having indicated to turn right into Kendal Row, I stopped in the middle of the road.
The entrance to Kendal Row was blocked by another vehicle waiting to come out so I was unable to turn immediately.
After a matter of only seconds, two cars that were behind me overtook as I was trying to turn right. I had my grandchild in the back of the car and was terrified at the prospect of what could have happened if I had continued to turn right.
This is not the first time impatient motorists have tried to overtake while I have been turning right. The same thing has happened to other residents on the row.
My son was travelling towards Blackburn on February 8 when he was met head-on by a car overtaking travelling towards Haslingden. He alerted a police motorcyclist to this incident.
We now have to suffer a loose manhole cover at the end of the street that is hit constantly by lorries travelling at breakneck speed down the hill towards Blackburn.
This noise nuisance starts with the onslaught of traffic about 4am each morning and prevents us from sleeping even late into the night.
Many of the lorries hurtle totally out of control past the Pack Horse public house. Any residents of Kendal Row have to struggle to view the traffic because of cars parked outside.
There have already been several accidents at this spot and it is only a matter of time before there is another fatal accident.
The measures that have been agreed will in no way stop these lunatic drivers. Speed cameras and a much lower speed limit may help. Proper policing may stop more serious accidents and fatalities.
As a family, we moved away from a busy town 10 years ago because of the traffic. This road has now become more like a dual carriageway than a country road. Can nothing more be done to ensure my family do not become statistics of this dangerous road?
WENDY HOWARD (Mrs), Kendal Row, Belthorn, Blackburn.
