MEMBERS of an East Lancashire Sunday league football team have rallied round to help raise some money for a player who broke his leg during a game.
The lads at Oswaldtwistle's James Street Sports and Social Club, who play in Blackburn Sunday League, organised a day of fund-raising for Wayne Pickering, of Accrington, who was injured three weeks ago.
Team member Mick Cox explained: "He's broke his leg really badly and will be off work for something like four months so we thought we'd raise some money and we hope to have got about £500 through a variety of events."
Three members of the team took part in a sponsored head shave and another had his beard shaved during the fun day at the club, which included a raffle to win a shirt donated by the club and a football signed by the Liverpool team.
