EXPERTS in racial harassment and equal opportunities have been called in to give the police advice on dealing with the ethnic minorities.

The move is one of a series of measures introduced in Lancashire over the last 12 months following the publication of the far reaching Macpherson Report.

The report was released as a result of the inquiry into the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence.

Home Secretary Jack Straw has set every constabulary tough targets for recruiting black and Asian officers.

And Lancashire police have spent £160,000 on advertising campaign designed to attract ethnic minority recruits.

Out of a force of 3,200 officers just 42 are black or Asian and Jack Straw wants that number tripled over the next ten years. Numbers have risen slightly over the last year and two more Asian officers are due to start work.
