A CHEMICAL worker found with ecstasy tablets used them to keep him awake at all-night clubs, Burnley magistrates heard.

Glenn Uttley, 26, had nine tablets of the drug in his car when he was stopped by police in a routine check.

Ottley, of Church Crescent, Bacup, was fined £50 with £65 costs after admitting possessing MDMA, also known as ecstasy.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said when the defendant was interviewed he accepted the ecstasy tablets were his and that he had bought them in a pub. He said he intended to use them himself.

Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Uttley was going to use the tablets over the coming weeks, rather than days. He used ecstasy recreationally, and took it because he attended clubs which were open all night.

The defendant had had the same job for 10 years and worked for a chemical company in Todmorden.
