HOSPITAL staff sickness was on the rise despite attempts by bosses to cut absences.

Latest figures from the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Health Care Trust showed employees were off for an average of almost six per cent of January.

The 2,500 staff took an average of 13 days off sick over a 12-month period.
