AFTER Saturday's usual woeful performance, why are people still tagging Rovers as underachievers?

They are achieving a position in the league higher than performances would suggest.

Rovers now have a team full of mediocre First Division players on good Premiership contracts, when in truth only two or three in the side could cut it in the Premier League.

I feel sorry for Tony as his hands are tied with the squad left after Hodgson and then Kidd.

But he got it wrong on Saturday with his post-match comments that the fans were unhappy he made substitutions. We were delighted he was bringing new players into the game, but most fans were furious as to who was going off.

Having said that, he could have taken off anyone on the pitch. But why is it always Matt Jansen and never Ashley Ward who very rarely has a decent game. Where was David Dunn on Saturday? It's as though the players who cost the most have a divine right to a first team place, making a mockery of the Academy.

At the end of the season Rovers need a manager who will come to Rovers, not trying to make a quick fix, but to build a team over a couple of years to challenge for the Premiership and more importantly be able to stay there.

Alan Curbishley springs to mind and he hinted that he wanted the Rovers job after we played them.

And whoever comes in they must be able to choose their own backroom staff.

ROY WINKLEY, Preston Old Rd, Blackburn.
