FIREFIGHTERS had to force their way into a house in Woodgrove Road, Burnley, when a fire spread through the loft from next door.
Two crews from Burnley were called to the fire and spent almost two hours making sure both houses were secure.
Leading firefighter John Chapman said: "British Gas were doing work on the premises which included changing the boiler, fire and flue liner.
"They had been working in the loft and had left an inspection lamp up there which set fire to the loft insulation.
"The fire then spread through into next door where the occupiers were out."
The fire damaged the loft insulation as well as the felt on the inside of the slates but no one was injured.
