GREEN-MINDED Lancashire folk have helped a company pick up a national award.

United Utilities - the parent company of Norweb and North West Water - has received the award from the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants for its environment report, which outlines the company's progress on environmental matters.

The judges said the report highlighted the fact that the company's key environmental objectives were addressed at all levels and praised its coverage of climate change issues. Among the projects highlighted in the report were the North West Water learning centre for schoolchildren at Woodsfold estate near Chorley, designed to teach youngsters about the woodland and moorland environment, and the planting of thousands of trees in the Trough of Bowland.
