CHORLEY-based Alan Woods is the new man at the helm of two of the UK's biggest environmental campaigns.
Alan is to head the Tidy Britain Group and its sister organisation Going for Green.
He replaces Professor Graham Ashworth, from Samlesbury, who will continue as chairman.
At 36, Alan is the youngest ever chief executive of the Tidy Britain Group, which campaigns to rid the UK's streets and beaches of rubbish.
Going for Green was formed in 1992 and is Britain's largest environmental awareness campaign. Alan is originally from London but moved to Chorley, where he lives with his wife and son, last summer.
He takes up the post of chief executive after a spell as the organisation's executive director of operations. He previously worked as Tidy Britain Group's national director for the capital.
Professor Ashworth said: "Next to the Minister for the Environment, this is the most important green job in Britain, and it is so vital because it is helping to shape the environmental future of our country and our planet.
"In Alan Woods we have an enthusiastic hands-on leader who will, I'm sure, convince government, business and the people that they must do their bit to help protect our planet."
