CLITHEROE'S supermarkets have joined together to host a pancake relay race through the town on Tuesday.

Staff from Booths, Sainsbury's and Tesco will raise money for their own designated charities by ferrying pancakes from Sainsbury's to Booths, then on to Clitheroe Police Station and Tesco before returning to Sainsbury's. The race starts at 10.30am. Booths has decided that all its money should go to leading cancer care centre the Christie Hospital, Manchester.

Phil Leeson, assistant manager of Clitheroe's Booths store, said: "Booths has been fund-raising for the Christie for some time now and, with support from staff and customers, our store alone has raised more than £1,500 for the hospital. "We chose to support Christie's because it holds a very special place in the hearts of many local people, some of whom have received treatment at the hospital themselves.

"We are all looking forward to the pancake race which should be a sizzling success."
