A GRIEVING daughter has spoken for the first time about her mother's death on the M55.

Verity Beswick said her mum Tracy Wilding, 42, had tried to cross the carriageway on Wednesday night because she was upset by an earlier incident and had not had a row with her boyfriend Charlie Bates.

Ms Beswick, 23, who lived with her mother in Reeth Way, Accrington, said her mother had been through a very stressful period and had recently been upset by the death of a relative.

She said: "She and Charlie had been to see a friend on the way home from Blackpool and something had happened to upset her. It was the last straw.

"She wanted to go back and sort things out with her friend. Charlie thought it would be better to get her home because she was upset.

"He had to pull over because she wanted to get out. He didn't want her to get out, but that was the only disagreement they had."

At about 7pm, Ms Wilding crossed over to the central reservation. She was trying to cross back when she was in collision with a car. Ms Beswick said: "They weren't far from her friend's house so maybe she thought she could walk back. I don't think she was thinking straight because she was upset." Mr Bates called Ms Beswick on his mobile as he drove back to his Blackpool Road home, in Church, and told her what had happened.

She called the police to ask them if they could find her and give her a lift home. Two hours later they called to tell her of the accident.

She and Mr Bates went to Royal Preston Hospital, where Ms Wilding died at 1am on Thursday.
