IT was a home nations match of the sort which has never been played before ... in Leyland!
England's U16s hockey team took on Scotland's U16s at Leyland St Mary's Catholic College in Leyland last week.
And Bravehearts beware: the score is enough to bring a tear to your eye and set the three lions singing trio off on another round of "God Save the Queen.'
For the final score was 9-1 to the English side.
The match was held to coincide with the the school's Millennium Activity Week, and was played on the college's all weather astro turf pitch.
The only Lancashire representative in the England side was Kirsty Mackay, who attends Bispham High School. She did a sterling job in goal, fending off the sterling efforts of the Scotland side as they tried to recapture something from the game.
In the end Kirsty was only beaten once to provide Scotland with what turned out to be a consolation.
A school spokesman said: "We were delighted that we could host this event on our Millennium week. We wish all the players the best of luck for the future."
