AN inspirational physics teacher has won an award for helping his students gain top GCSE results.
John Allen, who is also deputy headteacher at All Hallows RC High in Penwortham, was thrilled to win the Institute of Physics Teachers Award 2000 -- but not as happy as his pupils.
John's hard work has raised All Hallows' GCSE results well above the national average, and he is described as a role model for young teachers. One former colleague said: "His ability to motivate, manage change and make the impossible seem realistic is unique."
John said: "I'm thrilled to receive the award. But the students' success is more important to me."
Dr Steven Chapman, of the Institute's education department, said: "Nine teachers are rewarded this year, four more than in 1999, which reflects the high standards of nominations we receive."
John will receive his Teacher of Physics award from the Institute of Physics at the Royal Institution in London in May.
