TYLDESLEY allotment holders have been swamped with offers to fill their empty plots.
Last week The Journal published an appeal from the town's Allotments' Association for green fingered gardeners to fill 20 of the 120 patches - and save the site from the threat of housing development.
The paper's pulling power worked its magic once again.
By Monday all the vacant allotments had been filled - and a waiting list of 25 had developed!
Association member, Wilf Duddle, said: "The Journal story really helped us. We now have a new mixture of young and older people to work the land. It's brilliant. All we can say is thanks."
