JUNIOR bookworms will get a helping hand from their older pals in a new paired reading scheme.
Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School has teamed up with Hawthorns Junior School in Blackburn, to teach the youngsters about helping each other and give the younger pupils a bit of extra tuition.
Third year boys from QEGS have each been paired up with a pupil from Hawthorns and, once a week, will help them with their reading.
Phil Lloyd of QEGS said: "The idea is that the older child helps the younger child by listening to them read and asking them questions about what they are reading."
QEGS pupil Philip Brown, 14, is pictured listening to his reading partner, Naomi Halsall, nine, from Hawthorns.
