THE national press, radio and television are still bombarding us with scare stories regarding the food we eat.
Once again organic food and British beef are being heavily promoted to combat the growth of overseas food that doesn't have to meet the rigorous standards now being imposed. Some of these problems have little effect on the army of allotment holders throughout the country. No convenience foods for them. They grow their own fruit, vegetables and enjoy the flavour fresh home grown produce.
The Rainford North End Allotment Association is one that supports this aspiration by providing allotments, and we currently have a few vacancies. So, if there are any people in the St Helens/Rainford area keen to join this band of active gardeners, wishing to both eat well and keep fit, they can contact the secretary on 01744 882430 for further information.
Sorry, can't write anymore, off to my plot!
David Cook, secretary, Rainford North End Allotment Association, Heyes Avenue, Rainford.
