SHAKERLEY Community Association -- which this weekend celebrates its 10th anniversary -- are being investigated by Wigan Council's internal auditors (writes Malcolm RYDING).
But complaints and allegations about the association have yet to be substantiated.
Run by a six-strong management committee, chaired by Mr Mark Aldred since February, the Shakerley Community Association has around 650 members.
The council Internal Audit section began investigating the association, which meets at the Community Centre in Cumberland Avenue, three weeks ago after receiving a letter of complaint.
Confirming the inquiry, a council spokesman told The Journal: "The affairs of the Shakerley Community Centre are being investigated by the Internal Auditors because a complaint and allegations have been made but at this stage there is no evidence whatsoever to substantiate these allegations."
Mr Aldred told The Journal he had no knowledge of the complaints or investigation.
