WE are writing in order to correct the impression which may have been given by the story 'Women menaced by shelter thugs', (Citizen, March 30).
The comments attributed to members of the Penwortham Women's Institute are, to say in the least, inaccurate and misleading.
Our WI has been meeting at the Community Centre, in Kingsfold Drive, throughout the winter, and no such complaints regarding the behaviour of gangs of youths have deterred any of our members from attending monthly meetings.
The facilities at the Community Centre are very good indeed and, for this reason, the Penwortham WI committee has decided to organise a recruitment campaign to increase membership of our excellent organisation for women living locally.
None of us condones criminal damage and unruly behaviour which, unhappily, exists in all parts of the country.
Penwortham is not immune from this problem and the above comments are based solely on our own experience.
