SOCCER club St Helens Town are set to quit their Hoghton Road ground after a stay of more than 50 years!
They plan to move to Saints' Knowsley Road stadium next season in readiness for the merger with their Rugby League neighbours at the proposed Linkway community complex in 2001.
Rumours of the switch have been rife since Town held a shareholders' meeting in December, but the club has denied that they have sold their Sutton-based home, where they first played in1946.
Said Town trustee John McKiernan: "We have informed the Football Association and the North West Trains League of our intentions, and it is likely we will make our last appearance at Hoghton Road against Vauxhall Motors on April 29."
