A LIFT is to be installed at Earlestown Town Hall giving disabled people direct access to the first-floor function rooms.
The £90,000 project is being jointly funded by St Helens Council and Newton 21 SRB. A ground-floor ramp is being installed and the lift will be situated near the entrance.
The first floor is currently only accessed by stairs, a problem for disabled people who want to use the upstairs rooms used for local theatrical productions, civic events and use by Age Concern and others.
Councillor Leon McGuire, a member of Newton 21 Board, who has been campaigning for a lift in the building for several years, said; "The lift will be a real boost for people with mobility problems and I am delighted that the council has been able to secure funding along with our Newton 21 partnership.
