POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an incident which left a 22-year-old man requiring hospital treatment for cuts and bruises to his head.
The incident took place in Baldwin Street in the town centre in the early hours of Saturday, March 25.
The victim, Michael David Murphy, and a group of friends had been involved in an altercation with another group of men and women in Crystals night club earlier in the evening.
After leaving the club shortly after 1.50am, Mr Murphy was about to get into a taxi when he felt a glass or a bottle smash on his head. When he turned round, a man, whom he recognised as one of the group in the club, hit him again and then kicked him before escaping with the others in the group.
Mr Murphy later described his attacker as in his early 20s with short, black hair and about 5ft 7ins tall.
Anyone who was in the area at the time and has information about the attack, can contact DC Paul Fletcher at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6063 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
