REFUSE worker Brian Napier collapsed at the wheel of his van and died.

Mr Napier, 60, of Chiltern Avenue, Burnley, was driving his firm's Citroen van in the loading area of Biffa Holdings, Balderstone Lane, Burnley, at 11.55am yesterday when police say he appeared to suffer a heart attack.

The van went out of control and before reaching the public highway it went over a grass bank and into the perimeter fencing.

Colleagues at the company, which recently took over the cleansing contract for Burnley, gave assistance to Mr Napier until an ambulance arrived.

Paramedics took over and Mr Napier was taken to Burnley General Hospital where he was found to have died.

A post mortem examination will be carried out on Monday and the coroner has been informed.
