THE rise in child benefit to a record high has been welcomed by Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle.
Payments for the eldest or only child will rise to a record £15 a week and from April next year, it will rise again to £15.50.
For subsequent children it will rise to £10 this April and £10.35 next year.
The Labour MP said: "The record rises in child benefit will go some way to achieving our commitment of giving a child the best possible start in life. I have no doubt that all those people with children will be pleased to receive the extra benefit.
"No child should be born into poverty or left without the support they need to make the most of their talents."
