ADVENTUROUS student Lara Hewitt (pictured) is planning to travel to Africa to teach for eight months when she finishes her A-level studies.

Lara, an 18-year-old pupil at Westholme School, Blackburn, has been picked for a placement organised by the Anglican Church under the Right Hand Trust organisation.

Lara, who attends St Laurence's and St Paul's Church, Longridge, does not yet know where her placement will be in Africa but has to raise £2,300 to cover her costs.

She is planning to raise the money by organising a series of fund-raising events including barn dances and raft races.

She said: "I am going away to teach and do community work such as with Aids and refugee schemes, but I expect it will be a lot of fun as well.

"After so many years of school it is wonderful when the gates open and you can use your education to help others.

"I will be going to university but afterwards I hope to move off again and work for an international aid project."
