Grasshoppers 10, Newbury 14
HOPPERS' late rally just failed to steal the points in this disappointing mid table battle between two under-strength sides.
The penalty attempt was wide. Lough then collected his own chip kick in the Newbury 22, but possession was lost.
For the next minutes it was all Hoppers. Claims for a penalty try found no favour when Gary Monaghan was held back.
Hoppers continued to batter the Newbury line but surrendered the initiative when Steve Fee was cautioned for stamping.
The introduction of Craig Steel and Charlie Dupre gave Hoppers new life. Newbury's discipline failed as a blatant punch earned a second caution.
Hoppers had the territorial advantage with their efforts finally rewarded fifteen minutes from time.
A penalty kicked to touch close to the Newbury line provided the platform. A clean take and concerted drive saw Jason Brittin make the line. Glynn converted to set the scene for an exciting climax.
Hoppers quickly returned to the attack but despite a series of close range scrums, line outs and penalty moves they were unable to breach a resolute defence.
Hoppers travel to Reading on Saturday where a defeat for the home side will condemn them to relegation.
