IN the first seven days of a seatbelt road safety campaign, Preston police have issued 155 motorists with fixed penalty notices.
Inspector Andrew Baxter, head of the road policing unit, said: "This is a very disappointing response from the people of Preston, that so many have failed to wear their seatbelts. This being despite the publicity surrounding the campaign.
"The campaign will continue throughout April and I hope that more motorists heed our advice and wear their seatbelts. I can only reiterate that wearing a seatbelt can reduce the risk of serious injury if you are involved in a collision."
