IN October 1996 Bolton-le-Sands parish council met with various organisations in the village to discuss ideas for celebrating the Millennium.
Cath Byram offered an idea of making a parish map, and with the backing of Bolton-le-Sands Art Society, was accepted. The map is in the form of a triptych, a central panel with two outer panels which fold over the centre.
Planning and fund-raising took just over two years and the construction of the map and painting took just over one year and is housed in Bolton-le-Sands Library.
