THE city's MP has called on local people to get behind moves to set up a Children's Rights Commissioner.
Hilton Dawson is personally introducing a special Bill into Parliament backed by by UNICEF and the NSPCC.
In a newsletter posted to constituents next week, the MP is calling for people to fill in a coupon of support of the campaign.
Hilton said: "The message of successive child abuse incidents over the last 30 years is that child victims have no voice.
"On May 3 I will be introducing the Children's Right Commissioner Bill into Parliament. This is part of a national campaign to introduce a children's ombudsman, someone who would be known by all children and to whom they could turn if things were going wrong and systems to protect them were failing."
He added: "I am keen to emphasise the strength of support for a Children's Rights commissioner from Lancaster and Wyre people so I hope that we get an excellent response form local people."
