POLICE are planning to crack down on trouble-making youngsters in Morecambe town centre.

Their decision to target the youngsters has arisen after the latest crime figures show that there are more reported incidents of juvenile nuisance in the area. Of particular concern to Officers, is the damage being done to cars, houses and shops in the hours after pubs and clubs have closed.

PC John Davis said: "The number of calls increase around about the time these licensed premises are closing so we have decided to be pro-active in our approach to tackling the problem. We intend to find out if these juveniles are purchasing alcohol and if they are under 18 then we will take action against those who have sold the drink."

"We will be targeting pubs, clubs and off licenses to make sure that everyone is aware of the penalties for selling alcohol to under age juveniles. We will make it quite clear that we will prosecute and that we have the backing of local residents who are sick and tired of these troublesome youngsters".

Next month, Morecambe police will be increasing the number of high visibility patrols in the town centre.

PC Davis advises "Any young troublemaker should be warned that we mean business and that we plan to make the centre of Morecambe a safer and more enjoyable place for people to visit in the evenings."
