AN advanced driving group for younger motorists is seeking to recruit new members from the local area.
Alpha 5 is a subsidiary of the St Helens-based Institute of Advanced Motorists specifically aimed at drivers aged between 17 and 30. Unique to the North West, Alpha 5's main aim is to promote and encourage road safety and advanced driver training for younger drivers, who statistically, are at a higher risk of being involved in a road accident than other age ranges.
Group members, currently numbering around 20, come from all over the North West and the group hold regular fun events including go-karting in Wigan and a recent visit to Staffordshire Police Driving School for a skid-control session.
Organiser, Deborah Colli, said: "We want to get across the message that safe driving can be fun and isn't just for older people. The local organisers are all volunteers and everyone always enjoys the special fun events."
IF you would like to get involved with Alpha 5, you can go along to the group's weekly meeting at Birchley Street car park in the town centre or contact Deborah on 0161 775 2168 (work) or 01942 746487 (eve).
