A GUN happy Leigh resident taking pot shots at anything that moves on the canal has been blasted by a Welch Mill worker.

The gunman, described as short, in his late 30s and with a 'two gallon beer belly', is missing his prey and shattering windows in the units opposite.

His antics of wandering along the canal bank, blasting off at ducks on the canal and pigeons on the mill roof, have been reported to police.

One complainant, in a letter to The Journal, said: "Recently two mallard were floating head down in the water opposite the rugby ground.

"As there are no dead pigeons lying about, and because of the holes in the windows, we can say he is not upto the standard of Rambo, yet.

"A complaint was delivered to our local nick last Wednesday evening, but it was shut.

"Last week's we read stories about a child being shot in the leg and the call for more police activity in Lowton. At that meeting a police spokesman said that the local authority, teachers and parents should get involved, due to staff shortages.

"Where do we sign up to be a vigilante? That's what it will come to very shortly."
