THE St Helens Combination's Tom Worrall Cup semi-finalists were decided at the weekend. College St Helens, with goals from Carl Bromilow and Jack Woodcroft (2), eliminated Green Dragon. Broad Oak (Rob Miller and Paul Hopwood, 2) just outstayed Bull and Dog to go through with a 3-2 home win. Top Nogs could not hold Hardshaw Argyle at home and went out to a 5-1 defeat. And Clock Face Miners Welfare Reservesrepeated their Rainford Potteries Cup final form against Pilkington A, this time Lee Hollinghurst and John Doby goals seeing them through 2-0.
The semi-finals will take place on Easter Saturday, April 22.
In league games, St Helens Star Premier Division trail-blazers, Carr Mill gained maximum points from their two games by beating Child Reserves 2-0 (Gary Ball, Damion Owen (pen)) in mid-week, then winning 2-0 at Gerard Arms on Saturday. Challengers Shoe FC lapsed=, struggling to a 3-3 draw (John Grady (2), Gary Finch) on Saturday against Penlake Juniors and scraping home 4-3 in midweek against Old Congs (Haydock). In mid-week, Penlake Juniors walloped Carborundum 7-1 at Bobbies Lane with goals from Kev McNabb (3), James Jones, Mark Carrigg (2) and Paul Inman. In Division One Eccleston United gained their two game maximum points with a Gary Hughes goal settling the week-end issue at home to Billinge and in midweek a Anthony Scott hat-trick plus a Shaun Rooney goal gave them a commendable 4-3 win at Sidac Social (Carl Pilling (2), Mark Byrom).
