APRIL continues with some great entertainment that is simply too good to miss!
IF you like unravelling a mystery, the St Helens Theatre Royal is the place for you. For The Unnamed Players are presenting the Agatha Christie classic, 'Murder at the Vicarage' from tonight (Thursday, April 13) untilSaturday, April 15, at 7.30pm.
ON Sunday, April 16, it's time to 'reach out' and enjoy yourself with a special tribute to Tamla greats The Temptations and The Four Tops at the theatre, again starting at 7.30pm.
AND there is a special Easter treat when the theatre plays host to the traditional pantomime, 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' on Saturday, April 22 at 2pm and 5pm; and on Sunday, April 23, again at 2pm.
THE theatre is also staging the delightful children's pantomime 'Pinocchio' which runs from Tuesday, April 18 for the week. And as a bonus, for every child's ticket sold for the performances on Thursday and Friday, April 20 and 21, they will receive a free Cadbury's Creme Egg during the interval. This musical production, specially written for children, is ideally suited to the family audience and shows are at 2 and 5.30pm. Further details are available from 01744 736000.
ON Friday, April 14 The Citadel, Waterloo Street plays host to the Ophaboom Theatre group who will be presenting 'Faustus' from 8pm. This provides a wonderful twist to both Goethe and Marlowe's epic tale of the man who sold his soul to the devil. THEN on Saturday, April 15 the St Helens Musicians Collective will be staging a gig there, starting at 8pm. This will feature Tom Twostix, Nova 5, Pupa and Narcosis.
THE Hilton St Helens has Paul Reason as Robbie Williams in Saturday Night Cabaret on April 29. Cost is £25 per person, which includes a four-course dinner and disco until 2am. Further details available from 01744 453444.
ARTIST Frances Heyes is staging a solo exhibition entitled 'Altered Images' at the Rainford Gallery, Central Library, Victoria Square. This evocative look at the urban landscape runs until Friday, April 28.
FROM Monday, April 17 to Thursday, April 20 and from Tuesday, April 25 to Friday, April 28 Craft Central Ltd., Wyevale Garden Centre, Mill Lane, Bold Heath will be holding a series of workshops. These are suitable for youngsters aged between five and 12 and there are six subjects ranging from making dream catchers to dinosaur eggs. THE Mahasi Dhamma Fellowship holds meditation evenings every Wednesday from 7.30 to 9pm at 73 Royden Road, Billinge. Further details from 0151 426 5569 (day) or 0151 430 9364 (evenings). RAINFORD Welfare and Old Folks Treats Committee will be holding a coffee morning in Rainford Parish Hall on Saturday, April 15 from 10am onwards. Tickets are 40p, including coffee, and you can pay on the door.
AGE Concern St Helens is holding a spring plant fayre at The Mansion House, Victoria Park, St Helens on Saturday, April 15 from 10.30am to 3.30pm. The Mansion House will also be open for viewing and admission is free.
ON Sunday, April 16 the guest musicians at the Jazz Rendezvous at The Star Inn, Rainford are Dave Alexander (guitar); Terry Porter (reeds); and Don Long (trombone). They join Edwina Allcock and the resident musicians of Dixieland and mainstream jazz from 8.30pm onwards. Admission is free.
