THREE separate arson attacks in five hours, which all involved propane cylinders, have prompted firefighters to call for vigilance from the public. The attacks took place in Blackburn earlier this week between 11pm on Monday and 4am on Tuesday.
Divisional Officer Chris Norse, formerly Station Commander at Blackburn and now heading the operations department at divisional headquarters in Burnley, said: "The primary message to the public is to be security-conscious and prevent easy access for arsonists to sheds, outbuildings and waste skips."
Mr Norse said all propane cylinders and other flammable substances should be locked away for secure storage and that skips should not be sited near to buildings, since a skip fire can soon spread.
He urged the public to make use of the Crimestoppers Arson Hotline on 0800 555 111.
