LANCASHIRE's Benson and Hedges Cup campaign went off the rails with one of their worst-ever bowling displays at Headingley.
They handed Yorkshire 40 extras including 29 wides and, from the verge of defeat, the White Rose side cruised to a four wickets win with 27 balls to spare.
Thankfully Lancashire had crushed Notts the previous day at Old Trafford but now they face difficult trips to Durham and Derby, knowing that they have to win both.
Coach Bob Simpson is confident they will bounce back, but he called in the wide boys today for extra practice.
"We have to make sure that this doesn't happen again, and we will be working on bowling at specific targets so they get used to pitching the ball on the right spot," he said. "It was disappointing. We should have won. In fact we thought our total of 166-9 on that pitch was plenty, but we gave far too many runs away. If you bowl to the batsmens strengths you have a problem."
Batting was always tricky and Lancashire did well, thanks to John Crawley (45), Andy Flintoff (35) and Graham Lloyd (24) to reach 166. Sourav Ganguly failed for the second time in 24 hours, a duck when opening on Saturday followed by seven after dropping down the order to number four.
The India captain however, succeeded with the ball, grabbing three quick wickets and plunging Yorkshire to 77-5. Then Lancashire started to throw it away, and they paid the penalty with an unbeaten 64 stand between Richard Blakey and man of the match Craig White.
