A CHALLENGE has been issued to Richard Caborn, minister for trade and industry responsible for the regions, to visit cash axed wards in Rossendale.
Coun George Lee, Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Rossendale and Darwen, and a councillor in Greenfield, one of the four Rossendale Wards wiped from the map for assisted area status, wants Mr Caborn to visit Rossendale and speak to the people and businesses.
Coun Lee said: "If the government does not backtrack and reinstate assisted area status to the four wards (Greenfield, Worsley, Helmshore and Cribden) Labour will have betrayed many of the working people and entrepreneurs in the Valley."
Mr Caborn has responded to calls by MPs Janet Anderson, Rossendale and Darwen, Greg Pope, Hyndburn, and Peter Pike, Burnley, to visit East Lancashire to discuss the loss of assisted area status.
