BLACKBURN Rovers star John Filan made his first public appearance for months -- and got booked.
Goalkeeper John called in at St Augustine's RC High School in Billington to address 90 Year 10 pupils as part of the annual Book Week activities.
The students decked out their classroom like a beach, complete with sand, deckchairs and a parasol, to make the Aussie international feel at home.
John, who is currently recuperating after shoulder surgery, read an excerpt from Clive James' autobiography before taking part in a question and answer session on books, reading and football. He then signed autographs for staff and pupils.
Teacher Liz Belshaw said: "The children were delighted to see John and everyone thoroughly enjoyed his visit. It's great when someone who has credibility with the children comes out to say that reading is fun."
John is pictured with pupils Hayley Aldridge and William Cross.
