TWO hundred pupils of St Augustine's High School, Billington are rehearsing their latest musical, Song of Creation.
It has been written by teachers Anne Conlon and Peter Rose and will be presented at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, on May 22 at 7.30pm.
Song of Creation celebrates the wonders of creation using musical energy and vibrant lyrics. It explores the life-giving forces of earth, air and water and charts the awesome splendour of human achievements.
Previous environmental musicals included: Yanomamo, African Jigsaw, Ocean World and Arabica. Using music and song they raised awareness about conservation and the need to protect life on earth. In recent years the school has toured with celebrities such as Sir David Attenborough, Sir Michael Hordern and Sting.
They have performed in London at the Barbican Theatre, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Royal Festival Hall and travelled to America, playing at the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC.
Pupils have appeared on television and radio at home and abroad and their award-winning films Song of the Forest and Ocean World have been transmitted in over 30 countries.
The school is being sponsored by the World Wide Fund For Nature and will be performing in aid of the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.
Tickets at £8-£15 from Bridgewater Hall box office, 0161 907 9000.
