LANCASTER Red Rose A.O.D.S. is embarking upon an ambitious project.
It is unusual for an amateur society to premier a new work, but even more unusual to premier a work written by two of its own members. However, this is exactly what the Society aims to do in September 2000, with a show called 'For Love or Money', written in its entirety by Phil Gibson and Geoff Houghton.
This musical was written following an idea Phil had about the basic plot and, upon receiving a favourable response to the music, the authors approached the Society's Committee with a view to utilising the Society's resources and, hopefully, staging the show. The response was, again, favourable.
The show follows the recent success of one of the first productions of the musical 'Mack and Mabel' in the North West.
Members of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association in the North West will be able to enjoy a brief sample of the work when members of the Society and the writers will give a short workshop presentation, as the Cabaret at the N.O.D.A. Millennium Awards Evening in Blackpool on Sunday 28th May, 2000.
Obtaining funding for the show and persuading people to come and see a brand new show will be two of the largest problems faced by the Society and authors. 'Arts and Events' Lancaster have promised support but major sponsors of the project are still required.
Anyone interested in providing funding for this project is asked to contact Duncan Stackhouse, Business Manager for Lancaster Red Rose A.O.D.S. on 07940 032 632 or John Gibson, Business Manager for Phil Gibson Music on 01524 32167.
