PEOPLE interested in sheltered housing in Pendle are being urged: Get on yer bike!

Pendle Council's housing and community care services department is organising a bike ride between the four main sheltered housing complexes in the borough to promote services.

Anyone not up to the effort of arriving on two wheels can turn up by other transport.

The event is open to anyone aged 50 or over and relatives of people interested in sheltered accommodation. Council staff and councillors are also being invited to take part.

The event, on May 25, will be part of the national Going On to Sheltered Housing (GOSH) Week.

Steve Carney, council community care co-ordinator, said: "We thought this may be a fun way of getting people to attend open days.

"If people can't manage a bike ride they will be welcome just to turn up, enjoy a drink and biscuits, and have a look round."

O'Hagan Court, Brierfield; Valley Gardens, Earby and Pendle Court and Hollins Court, Barnoldswick will be open to visitors from 10am to 3pm.

The council has almost 1,200 sheltered properties all with an emergency alarm system. Residents also benefit from support and regular contact with the council's mobile care staff working in the community.
