BAMBER Bridge have stumbled in the league again -- just a week after manager Tony Greenwood revealed that he thought his side had done enough to escape the drop.
And the Irongate outfit were sunk by two own goals to boot!
Brig crashed 2-0 at Frickley on Saturday and 2-3 against Worksop on Tuesday night.
Striker Lee Trundle gave Bamber Bridge a welcome boost by returning for the Frickley match.
But a soggy pitch and miserable night saw the two sides in stalemate in the first half. The game was reduced to a farce at times with players struggling in the mud.
Trundle almost put Brig in front with a 30-yard screamer and Andy Whittaker went close with a header.
And Trundle had the best chance of the second half with a lob which drifted wide.
On 81 minutes, Mick Noblett commited a howler when he pushed the ball over his own line to put the visitors in front and five minutes later, Mick Thompson sealed the win with a header.
The Irongate encounter with Worksop was a closer and more lively affair. Shaun McHugh's header past Craig Dootson in the final minute was a sickening blow for Brig -- especially after Dootson managed to save two penalties! Andy Whittaker put the home side in front, against the run of play, when he volleyed home a John Turner cross.
Minutes later, Brig looked home and dry as Turner headed past the helpless Worksop keeper.
And the visitors grabbed one back shortly before half-time through a soft shot from Townsend.
Turner performed heroics at the start of the scond half, clearing a ball off Dootson's line.
Then the fun really began.
Powell hit the crossbar for the visitors before Dootson blocked Phil Stafford for a penalty.
Dootson dived left to save Townsend's spot-kick and he recovered the rebound.
But Worksop managed the equaliser on 76 minutes when David Frain's shot took a wicked deflection to trick Dootson into going the wrong way.
Minutes later, Worksop had the perfect opportunity to take the lead as the referee judged Darren Brown to have handled in the area.
But Dootson saved superbly to his right and it looked like a point from a fantastic match.
But a corner from Hibbins in the dying seconds connected with McHugh's head and the ball rocketed past Dootson to guive the visitors the victory.
