TRANSPORT chiefs have unveiled major plans to create several road schemes to help cut the number of accidents on the county's roads.
More than £16million will be invested into a range of schemes designed to deliver improvements to people travelling in Lancashire.
The integrated transport schemes will be included in the 12-month Capital Transport Block.
More than £1million has been ear-marked for dozens of Quality Bus schemes including £100,000 for the Preston Hospital bus service route 19. And around £440,000 which will go towards a range of cycling projects in the area including £10,000 for three local schemes.
Cash has also been set aside to provide more rural bus schemes in the area as well as other lump sums to provide various related schemes.
These include £40,000 for on-street parking schemes in Preston and around £80,000 for a range of footway schemes. While a staggering £160,000 has been set aside for Preston's Intelligence Transport Systems Project.
Lancashire highways general purposes committee chairman, county councillor Brian Johnson, said the schemes will being great benefits to people living in this area.
He added: "We are being innovative across a wide range of issues and are also looking at things like school travel plans to reduce the number of of journeys made by car.
"This, along with measures to help pedestrians and cyclists, will hopefully reduce congestion and the number of accidents on our roads."
