SOMETHING vital was missing from the Valley of the Hazels until a young school girl decided to put the nut back into it.
Few people realised that Haslingden had such a grand title but April Jenkins knew her roots and thought it was time the town had its hazel tree back.
So she entered a National Tree week competition, and won three hazel trees which she planted near Holcombe Road.
