THIRTY 'off beat' charity fund raisers are celebrating crashing the £30,000 barrier.

Only two months after seven members of the Wigan Bobbies Charity -- which includes Leigh area officers -- scaled Africa's Mount Kilamanjaro, 31 pedal pushed through Cumbria on Saturday.

They are expected to rake in the region of £3,500 from the Cumbrian Coast Cycle Ride 2000 to boost the total.

Saturday's team of riders included family and friends of the officers, who had the choice of completing between 48 to 100 miles along the route from Ulverston to Bowness-on-Solway.

The charity was established in 1990 by Abram beat bobby PC Neil Shacklock and PC Keith Schmechel, and now boasts 30 members, primarily serving officers but including local business people.

The first money raised went to Multiple Sclerosis, but has now spread to a wider range of charities throughout Great Britain.

PC Shacklock said: "The charity has been involved in over 20 schemes over the past decade including events such as walking, running or cycling Hadrian's Wall, climbing Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis in a weekend, annual charity raft races and the recent climb of Kilamanjaro."
