WITH regards to Councillor Sheila Denwood's letter.
She expresses her concern about the amount of rubbish/fly tipping in her ward. On occasions she removes it herself.
I have lived at the above address for 19 years and over this period fly tipping in the lane which runs from the back gate of Happy Mount Park to Hest Bank has got worse.
During this time a TV, car, mattress and large amounts of rubble plus surplus tarmac has been dumped. While such things as door frames, doors, cigarette machines, mattresses and cars have been removed by the council the rubble has been left. The latest item to be abandoned is a caravan. This will be removed very soon but nothing, repeat nothing is done unless the residents of the area bring the problem to the attention of the council officers.
It is time that Lancaster City Council put its own back garden in order by starting with Happy Mount Park. The council have for many years been fully aware of the tip that was allowed to develop within the miniature village area. The site is now being cleared by a gang of council workers but who is footing the bill? Not the local tax payer again.
When the old toilet block was pulled down some rubble was left and it is still there, even when a large area behind the cafe has recently been turfed over.
It would seem that improvements are to be made in Happy Mount Park (again), will these improvements include the strengthening of the roadways to take the largest refuse wagons and will speed humps be introduced to reduce the speeding of vehicles around the park. Dog fouling in the area of the lane around the park to Hest Bank is still horrendous. While there have been suggestions to save money by making the dog wardens redundant due to the lack of improvement since the laws were strengthened I for one would go a step further and make all persons employed in the environmental health department redundant and save some real money.
Voting corrupt is not as silly as it sounds but some of us have a chance in early May 2000.
