EXPERTS have been called in after industrial contamination was discovered at the Safeway development site in Carnforth.
Rumours about the proposed new supermarket have been rife since workmen left the site last month.
There were concerns that Safeway had decided not to go ahead with their multi-million pound development plans but The Citizen understands that they have identified some contamination at the site.
Spokesman Peter Sitch explained: "Safeway has completed all enabling works at its site in Carnforth. This included dealing with some minor industrial contamination.
"Safeway is currently indentifying a contractor for the construction of the supermarket who will start on a date to be agreed."
